Managing Partner

Jonathan D. Calder is a Managing Partner of North Sea Partners. Mr. Calder brings over 20 years of experience in structuring, placing and trading leveraged finance debt instruments in the US and Europe.

He was the key individual responsible for establishing a secondary market for syndicated bank loans in the US, and was a Founder and subsequent Chairman of the Board of the Loan Syndications and Trading Association. As an LSTA Board member, he developed market standards for trade documentation, a code of conduct for loan market participants, standard practices for loan syndicate desks, the first market-wide mark-to-market service for loans, and operational rules of engagement for loan settlements. He is a recognized authority on the loan market and speaks frequently on leveraged finance topics in the US and Europe, and has represented the loan market in discussions with government regulators in the US, UK and Japan.

Throughout the credit cycle of the 1990's, Mr. Calder ran Citigroup's Distressed Loan Trading operations in the US and Europe, where he developed and utilized his expertise in discounted debt trading strategies involving corporate restructuring and bankruptcy situations.

Prior to joining North Sea, Mr. Calder ran Fixed Income Credit Sales for Citigroup in New York, specializing in high yield and high grade corporate bonds and syndicated loans. In this capacity he successfully distributed a broad list of the leveraged finance debt offerings of the past decade, including new issue 1st and 2nd lien loans, so-called "rescue" finance offerings, unsecured and subordinated securities placements, and exchange offers, amendments, and waivers. Mr. Calder is responsible for numerous loan market innovations, including bespoke portfolios customized to risk tolerance, diversification and return; and various hedge transactions for bank high grade loan portfolios. His leadership and client relationships were instrumental in Citigroup's #1 ranking in structured credit origination and distribution, which included transactions for most of the top-ranked CLO portfolio managers in the US.

Mr. Calder is a graduate of The Colorado College and Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College.
